There's no doubt
about it - several things distract me from writing. We all have our own distractions
and these are mine:
- Second: Facebook.
Oh yes. When I sit down at the computer, the first thing I do is check what my
friends have been doing. I can't help it. Although if I'm out of WiFi reach, I
can easily live without it, and, to be honest, I get a lot of work done then. ;)
- Third: Twitter. I
have to know what new debates are going on there. Friday is always a busy day.
:)
- Fourth: Different
occasions; birthdays, celebrations, gatherings, etc.
- Fifth: Family. Luckily
I'm a night owl, so most of my writing is done at night, when my family goes to
sleep and the house is silent and still. So my family shouldn't really be a
distraction, but... they can slow me down if they don't fall asleep 'on
time'... (joking)
- Sixth: books,
books and, did I mention, books. I love to read and, like most book nerds, I
always have a book or my Kindle with me. If I get a chance to open it, I do.
But there is also one more positive thing about carying around either of them.
I don't mind (too much) if I have to wait; whether that's in the post office,
or in any waiting room. I take a book out of my bag and, voila, I'm relaxed and
not angry.
So you're probably
wondering why I started with Number Two and I'm sure you think Facebook is Number
One, and I've made a mistake. I haven't.
The Number One
thing that distracts me from writing is my job.
I'm still employed full-time (thank
god for that) so those eight hours per day (at least) from Monday to Friday are, let's face it, a
distraction.
I can think about
plots, characters, plot twists, settings etc., when I'm involved in all the
other things that distract me from ACTUAL writing... but not my job. My work is
not something I can take lighlty and I'm not the sort of person who would take
it lightly.
No matter what I
do, I do it at 100%. I can't do it any differently.
These are my
greatest distractions. What distracts you from what you love to do most?
